- Open Class is for percussion lines of advanced skill level. Players are mature technically and musically. The staff has advanced knowledge of instrumentation and orchestration and strives to push the group to achieve at the highest level. A full battery and pit instrumentation is most likely represented, but not required. All players demonstrate a solid understanding of the material presented and focused sectional rehearsal is evident.
- Class A is for percussion lines of intermediate skill level. These groups have the basic skills needed to perform. All or most players are mature technically and musically, and could be ready for advanced skill level in the future. The staff has a good knowledge of instrumentation and orchestration. A full battery and pit instrumentation is most likely represented, but not required. Players demonstrate an understanding of the material presented and repeated full line rehearsals are evident.
- Class B is for percussion lines still in the learning process. Players are still working on the technical and musical aspects of the material. These lines are still working on getting established. Instrumentation may not represent a typical full percussion line and pit. Players are still learning the material, and have had limited opportunity to rehearse as a section.
