Drum Set for Beginners (ages 6-12)
Drumset For Beginners$95: 6 weeks of instruction (45 min each)

Learn basic drum set skills in a low cost group setting. Each student will get plenty of time on a real drum set to try new techniques. Basic sticking, rudiments, beats, and fills will be taught. Much of the material presented can be practiced on a practice pad at home between classes. This is a great way to get started playing drums and a great primer to private instruction!

Supplies Needed For Class: Practice pad & drum sticks (student must provide these items).

Requirements: A minimum of 3 students is required to hold the class; maximum number of students per class is 7.

This beginning guitar class is catered specifically toward young children. A child-size guitar is available for a $50 refundable security deposit. Class tuition includes a lesson book and a guitar pick.
Requirements: A minimum of 3 students is required to hold the class; maximum number of students per class is 6.

Learn to play the guitar without having to buy a guitar. We’re so sure your child will LOVE learning to play the guitar that he or she will want to stick with it. That’s why we’re offering a 6-week Beginning Guitar Class which includes a FREE loaner guitar with case (deposit required). Class tuition includes a music book and a guitar pick.

Jr. Rockerz (ages 7-10)
Jr. Rockerz LogoJr. Rockerz is a rock band program designed for both beginners and more experienced musicians. Students in Jr. Rockerz play instrumental rock songs and write and sing their own lyrics to accompany the song.

Kidzrock (ages 4-7)
Kidrock
Kidzrock is an 8-week program where children learn the basics of instrumental playing in the setting of a real rock band. Students rotate on guitar, drums, and keyboards as they prepare for an end-of-session rock concert. Band members also sing and perform songs from the upcoming Kidzrock CD. Kidzrock performs songs written specifically for the program. Instruments provided by Mozingo Music.

Mozingo Rock University
Mozingo Rock UniversityAll students who enroll are placed in one of four skill categories: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Advanced Plus. Skill level for new students is determined by a student skill evaluation with the MRU director prior to beginning of session. For returning students, skill level is determined by the student’s performance at the end of most recent session.

At the end of the 8-week session, student bands will perform an end of session concert at a local venue. Students will be asked to help promote the show to family, friends, and the general public. Various opportunities for performances before, after, and throughout the 8-week sessions will occur. Bands will be asked (at the director’s discretion) to perform. These will generally be community and PR performances that help promote the MRU program.

Cost: $279 per student/$199 for placement in a second band for 8 weeks of instruction & Performance (fee includes materials & Mozingo Rock University T-Shirt).

NEW FOR FALL 2013 — MRU Select Band!!

The MRU director will hand select outstanding musicians and performers from the entire pool of MRU students to form a “select” band. This band will rehearse a few songs within a specific theme (ie. “Led Zeppelin Catalog”) to be performed at the end of session concert. Participation in the Select Band will be above and beyond each student’s primary band and will be at the discretion of the MRU director, the student, and the student’s parents/guardians.
FEE FOR MRU SELECT BAND: $99 (in addition to standard MRU fees described below)

Music Theory 101
Music Theory 101$95: 6 weeks of instruction (1 hour each). Instructional book included.

Explore the foundations of Western Tonal Harmony. Topics will include elements of pitch, rhythm and harmony; Music Theory 101 will enhance each student’s musicianship and understanding of music notation and language. No prior training, experience, or knowledge of notation is required. This comprehensive class will encourage participation to develop your understanding of the notation of the staff, major scales, major key signatures, circle of fifths, enharmonic pitches, accidentals, scale degree names, intervals, rhythm, tempo, meter, beat, simple and compound time signatures, triads, and more.

Music Theory 201
Music Theory 201$95: 6 weeks of instruction (1 hour each). Instructional book included.

Further explore the foundations of Western Tonal Harmony. Topics will include advance elements of pitch, rhythm and harmony; Music Theory 201 will enhance each student�s musicianship and understanding of music notation and language. Completion of Music Theory 101 and/or basic notation and knowledge of tertian harmony and diatonic relationships is recommended. This comprehensive class will encourage participation exploring the principals of seventh chords, inversion symbols and figured bass, lead sheet symbols, minor scales, diatonic triads in major and minor keys, diatonic seventh chords in major and minor keys, dominant and tonic relationships, cadences, simple chord progressions, and harmonizing a melody.
