One of the first questions a parent asks when they are consider renting an instrument for the first time is: How much is this going to cost? It can be confusing and somewhat difficult to answer this question because there are many variables. The following highlights common scenarios and the things to consider.
QUALITY OF THE INSTRUMENT
Providing your child with the best possible instrument ensures a positive and enjoyable experience while they learn to play for the very first time. You will have several options when choosing your instrument of choice. There are several quality brand names to choose from, and each is unique in quality, performance and price.
CONDITION OF THE INSTRUMENT
We offer new and previously rented instruments, allowing each family the peace of mind and potential savings that’s best for them. Previously rented instruments have been through our repair shop, are completely sterilized, and sound & play “like new”!
VALUE OF THE ENITRE RENTAL VS. MONTHLY PAYMENT ONLY
When comparing music stores, be cautious of the low-cost “trial month” offers. These companies lure you in with the perception of a low monthly rental, however, this rate is only available for the initial period (first month). And, you still have to buy all the accessories and books, as required by the school’s teacher/director.
DO THE MATH
Often times the actual monthly rental price is higher once the trial period is over. A trusted local company can show the differences, and present the “whole picture” as it relates to Rent-to-own, professional cleanings and maintenance of the instrument. You can expect to pay in the low-to-mid twenty-dollar range for previously rented student instruments.
UPGRADED ACCESSORIES REQUIRED BY YOUR SCHOOL
If your band program requires upgraded instruments accessories, such as mouthpieces and ligatures, find out if the music store is making you pay for those up front. We include these items into the rental value, saving you from having to pay for them at the time of the rental. You will eventually pay for them as part of the Rent-to-own program.
RENT TO OWN
Most reputable music stores offer a Rent-to-own program for most student instruments. We always recommend that type of program so your money is working for you during the rental period.
